Hey gang, it’s time for another round of spoilers from Magic: the Gathering‘s latest expansion, Dominaria. Here’s what you’ve missed since we left off.

Old legends return

Over Magic‘s long history, Wizards of the Coast has printed over 15,000 cards. That’s a lot of cardboard. However, while all of these cards have seen play at one point, far fewer have graced the tables of competitive tournaments. Only the best of the best have received that honor. And a number of great tournament staples from Magic‘s past are returning to torment us again.

From MTGCast:

Moreover, one of the game’s most beloved characters will receive a new card in Dominaria as well. Squee, Goblin Nabob was a crew member of the original Weatherlight. A somewhat hapless but endearing figure, Squee’s most unique quality is his immortality, which was accidentally granted to him by the evil Phyrexians while they were trying to sway Gerrard Capashen to their side by proving that they could raise the dead.

Well, it appears that Squee is still kicking to this day.

New legacies are born

Today, Polygon revealed three exclusive new Legendary Creature cards from the Dominaria expansion. Magic story fans will be glad to see Rona, Disciple of Gix, a young woman who looks to carry on the legacy of the legendary Phyrexian who set Urza and Mishra, two of the most powerful mages in the history of the Multiverse, against one another in the Brother’s War.

According to Magic‘s lore, angels are the pure incarnation of white mana in the multiverse. Many of Magic‘s early angels were the creation of Serra, a powerful and ancient planeswalker who created her own conflict-free plane known as Serra’s Realm. After that plane was destroyed, however, some of these angels fled to Dominaria.

One of the major Serra angels in Magic‘s story was Reya Dawnbringer, who led the Serra angels during Phyrexia’s invasion of Dominaria. It seems that her descendants will continue to play a major role on Dominaria as well:

Ancient spells revealed

Yawgmoth’s Vile Offering depicts a turning point for Gerrard Capashen, a major character from Magic‘s early stories whom we’ve covered several times before. At this point in his life, his partner Hanna has died. Yawgmoth, the ruler of the Borg-like Phyrexia, offers him a way to bring her back, however. All he has to do is kill his creator and Yawgmoth’s most powerful adversary, Urza.

Kamahl’s Druidic Vow from Nizzahon Magic, which reflects a moment from the legendary barbarian’s life where he renounces his more brutal war-like instincts after gravely injuring his sister in a moment of bloodlust triggered by a dangerous artifact known as the Mirari:
