A flurry of new allegations of misconduct against writer/director Joss Whedon have surfaced from past cast members of Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel. It began yesterday morning when actress Charisma Carpenter, who played Cordelia Chase on both Buffy and Angel, tweeted a long message expressing solidarity with actor Ray Fisher. She recounted her experiences with Whedon, which ranged from verbal harassment to intimidation to religious discrimination directed towards her by Whedon:

Shortly thereafter, fellow Buffy actresses Sarah Michelle Gellar, Amber BensonMichelle Trachtenberg, and Clare Kramer all came out in support of Carpenter, with some echoing her statements about Whedon’s behavior.

Fisher also expressed his support and appreciation for Carpenter for speaking out about her experiences.

In July of last year, Fisher, who played Cyborg in Justice League initially under the direction of Zack Snyder and then of Whedon, tweeted that the director had engaged in “gross, abusive, unprofessional, and completely unacceptable” behavior on the set of the movie. The tweet also implicated producers Geoff Johns and Jon Berg as having enabled Whedon’s behavior:

In an interview with Forbes in October of last year, Fisher describes what he had heard were “blatantly racist conversations” that happened between executives including Johns, Berg, and Toby Emmerich, chairman of Warner Bros. Pictures Group, though Fisher did not specifically name Joss Whedon as having participated in those conversations. WarnerMedia reportedly investigated the Whedon situation (which Carpenter refers to in her tweets), and after the investigation concluded in December 2020 said that “remedial action” had been taken, though no further details were provided regarding just what that action was. Fisher was ultimately fired from his role as Cyborg after having been slated to appear in the upcoming Flash movie.
