The Jewish Quarterly offers a very long and thoughtful examination of the works of Actus Tragicus, Etgar Keret and the Hanukas:

It is often at the margins of a culture that we can uncover the most pressing issues which it faces, as they well up from beneath the surface. Just as the political counter-culture in America in the fifties and sixties found a vehicle in the underground ‘comix’ of artists such as Robert Crumb for broadening the parameters of expression beyond the ‘acceptable’ public agenda, so the current outpouring of comics and graphic novels by Israeli artists gives compelling insight into some of the internal debates and explorations that animate the country as a whole.
