Geoff Johns reveals that the Doom Patrol is headed to TITANS

2

The upcoming series Titans, which will be the big debut live-action series on the yet to be named DC streaming service, is one I haven’t paid a whole lot of attention to. Probably because it’s headed to another streaming service, and lord knows I have enough of those on my monthly bills…but I have to admit, the pair of images we’ve seen over the past month or so have been intriguing in terms of comics accuracy:

Brenton Thwaites I think looks especially good as a very Dick Grayson by way of Tim Drake’s costume design, but never in my life did I think we’d see dead-on television depictions of the second iteration of Hawk and Dove. You know we’re truly living in an age of superhero media wonders when that can happen.

Based on the cast so far, which includes stalwarts like the aforementioned Dick Grayson, Starfire (Anna Diop), Raven (Teagan Croft), and Beast Boy (Ryan Potter), and recurring appearances from the Ditko/Skeates iconic duo – we are firmly looking at a Wolfman and Perez incarnation of the team, sans Kid Flash and Cyborg, who are being used elsewhere.

But having Gar Logan on the team also opened the door for the potential to provide some exciting background to his character…but there was no way they’d go all the way back to his Doom Patrol roots is there? Well, tweeted by series executive producer Geoff Johns today…

Holy cow! It looks like we’re going to maybe get a dose of Robotman, Negativeman and Elasti-girl! Or who knows, maybe Johns is going to break the continuity a little bit and bring in more of the Morrison team that’s currently gracing the pages of the very good Gerard Way/Nick Derington comic! What I’d give to see them try to pull off Crazy Jane or Flex Mentallo. The mind boggles at the possibilities here. But suddenly this series has really grabbed the attention of this life-long Doom Patrol fan!

Titans will debut on the new DC digital streaming sometime in 2018 and is developed by Johns, Akiva Goldsman, Greg Berlanti, and Sarah Schechter.

  1. A comics accurate Flex Mentallo would boggle my mind.
How about that Dada-esque villian? (I can’t remember his name

  2. I’ll own up to this; I mentioned that Dada character because I couldn’t make heads or tails of what was going on at times in Morrison’s comic.

A comics accurate adaptation of the bizarre in that book: biggest record ratings plummet in history and palpable collective ‘WTF?’
