Gearbox Entertainment dropped a 30-minute E3 Showcase on Saturday. Although half was dominated by Gearbox head Randy Pitchford strutting around the Budapest set of the forthcoming Borderlands film, we were offered some interesting snippets on forthcoming games from the publisher.

Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands, which was first announced during the Summer Game Fest Kickoff Live event on Thursday, was given a bit more info by its senior producer Kayla Belmore. According to Belmore,

“What is really unique about Wonderlands is it’s a looter shooter, which is pretty classic for a Gearbox software, but for the first time ever we’re setting it in a brand new fantasy environment – even though it’s inspired by some of the content we’ve made before with Assault on Dragon’s Keep [a Borderlands DLC] a fan favourite.

“It’s a completely standalone plot, new set of characters, with some nods to the past but if you’ve never played a Borderlands game before you can absolutely jump right in and enjoy it just as much.”

New enemy types in the game will include wyverns and goblins.

Homeworld 3 is “in production”. Homeword is a real time strategy franchise that debuted in 1999 on Microsoft Windows. The last mainline game in the series was 2003’s Homeworld 2. In 2013, Gearbox acquired the rights to the games and a remastered collection of the two main games was released two years later, followed by a prequel Homeworld: Deserts of Kharak in 2016 developed by Blackbird Interactive. Blackbird Interactive will be developing Homeworld 3. The game has been in a kind of development hell since it was announced in 2019, and crowdfunded on Fig.

Tribes of Midgard, developed by Norsfell, was given a bit more of an update ahead of its July 27 launch on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5 and Steam. It is a 10-player coop (but you can play solo), action RPG where you are a Viking hero that has been returned to Midgard to protect the seed of the sacred tree Yggdrasil. You are able to gather resources, craft, build up your village and fortifications, fight Hel-creatures and rival tribes, and every few days you must do battle with a giant. It seems pretty cool. There will be eight character classes to choose from with different skills, strengths and weaknesses.

Godfall was announced to be coming to PlayStation 4 on August 10. The game originally debuted as a PlayStation 5 launch title in November 2020.  It also came out on PC. The PS4 release will come alongside an update, called Lightbringer, and the game’s first expansion, Fire and Darkness. The PS4 release will come with a free PS5 upgrade for players who have yet to upgrade to next generation consoles, and will have crossplay enabled. Alongside this news, a matchmaking beta, new loot items and skins were also listed.
