The cast was shaping up wonderfully, with The Killing of a Sacred Deer‘s Barry Keoghan set as Yorick, Diane Lane as Senator Brown, Imogen Poots as Hero, and Lashana Lynch right off of the billion dollar grossing Captain Marvel as Agent 355. They even enlisted American Gods EP Michael Green to co-showrun the endeavour with Aida Mashaka Croal, and went and shot a pilot and the show was quickly ordered to series earlier this year.
Things were looking great, until suddenly they weren’t…that sudden moment came today as it was announced via Croal’s twitter account that the two showrunners would be stepping off the series, in a joint statement written with Green:

THR then confirmed that the show itself will continue without Croal and Green, despite the somewhat vague statement above. Such a shame to see these behind the scenes struggles. Y: The Last Man is one of the great Vertigo series and really demands to be adapted long-form of any creator-owned comic that comes to mind. Hopefully the network has another great creative in place to shepherd this project to reality, though with new showrunners often comes some other changes…so we’ll see what comes of all of this. Fingers crossed the series will still see the air in due time.
