Frankenstein Undone #4, which is part of the newest series in the long-running set of Mignola-verse comics, is getting a new variant cover by artist Sanford Greene, of the excellent monster-hunter comic, Bitter Root.

The Beat has an exclusive unveiling of the cover today, which you can check out below:

The book, which is due out from Dark Horse Comics on April 29, is from writers Mike Mignola and Scott Allie, with interior artwork by Ben Stenback, colors by Brennan Wagner, and lettering by Clem Robbins, the unsung lettering hero of basically the entire Mignola-verse.

Frankenstein Undone’s first issue hit shops this week, launching the series about a character that has in the past tangled with Hellboy and also headlined a previous miniseries all his own. This book does, of course, feature a heavy Mary Shelley influence, which is done in a way that makes it its own thing, embracing other mythos and the long-time continuity of Hellboy and the world he occupies. Along with a few one-shots and a Witchfinder series, this is one of the first entries in the Hellboy cannon after The Devil You Know series last year effectively brought the main over-arching narrative to an end.

You can find the solicit information for the first issue of the book below, followed by preview pages, which are not a Beat exclusive but are still cool nonetheless:

Frankenstein’s creator lies dead in the icy grip of the Arctic, and the monster searches for a new purpose. Just as he thinks he’s found one with a group of unlikely companions, disaster strikes-and the monster is catapulted out of Mary Shelley’s novel and into the world of Hellboy.

Bridging Mary Shelley’s original Frankenstein novella and Mike Mignola’s Frankenstein Underground, this series brings together Mignola, Scott Allie, Ben Stenbeck, Brennan Wagner, and Clem Robins for an all-new horror adventure in the far north.
