Eminem bemoans cancellation of Netflix’s THE PUNISHER

1

In an unsurprising and arguably poetic (I said arguably) bit of Internet business Thursday, Eminem stanned for The Punisher, bemoaning the cancellation of the character’s Netflix television show.

As any good denizen of heavy online culture knows, to stan for a character means to be as devoted to that character as Stan was to Eminem, Stan being the titular character from the Eminem (and Dido) song of the same name that came out way back in 2000. It’s usually used like this, “Do you stan for Captain Marvel?” “I stan for Black Panther,” and so forth.

Anyway, Eminem was a stan for Frank Castle on Twitter Thursday.

Subsequently, pretty much no one on the Internet was surprised, with comic artist Ramon Villalobos weighing in on how fitting it was.

And again…

Fans also noted that this is not the first time Eminem and The Punisher have been connected, with Marvel publishing Eminem/Punisher #1 back in 2009 (cover above). This is also not the first high-profile bit of comicbook business involving Eminem, with the protagonist of Mark Millar and J.G. Jones’ Wanted also sporting a resemblance to the rapper.
