DC Imprints Vs. Indies Sales Band Report For February 2017

0

Periodically (pun intended), it’s useful to take a look at where the sales of a publisher’s titles are clustered.  It helps widen the picture of how things are going.  The idea is to break the sales chart into 10K slices.  While it’s not particularly insightful to compare DC and Marvel to most of the independent publishers, comparing some of DC’s imprints to the independent publishers is increasingly more appropriate.

And now the numbers:

DC/Young Animal DC/Hanna Barbera DC/Vertigo DC/Digital First BOOM! Dark Horse Dynamite IDW Archie
20K-29K 0 0 0 0 1 0 0 1 0
10K-19K 3 3 1 4 4 2 1 5 1
Below 10K 0 1 5 4 4 8 7 16 2

What are we really talking about here?  Well, if you stop and think about it, DC’s Digital first is non-continuity adventures of their superheroes, much as is the case with BOOM!’s Planet of the Apes/Green Lantern and IDW’s Batman/TNT Adventures and Star Trek/Green Lantern.  Hanna Barbera re-mixes and He-Man/Thundercats vs. My Little Pony, Transformers and Power Rangers.  Vertigo vs. Lumberjanes, Buffy and Red Sonja.

You don’t necessarily notice it at first blush, but the DC imprints are covering similar territory to the independent comics and with similar sales ranges.
