DC’s great Walmart experiment seems to have been a success – so much so that they have expanded their line of comics and now are adding an exclusives line of DC Collectibles. The initial line of bagged Batman Black & White figures were on display at Toy Fair over the weekend, and I’m told they’ll be racked near the comics POS displays, in Walmart’s “collectibles” aisle.
DC Collectibles has been part of DC’s ongoing reorganization and will now be under WB Consumer Products.
As for this line of figures, they are very attractive, with designs by Amanda Conner, Darwyn Cooke, Jason Fabok, Patrick Gleason, Frank Quitely and Dick Sprang. They’ll be released in four waves – the first wave is on shelves now.
The Batman B&W line was inspired by a line of books created by now departed Art Director Mark Chiarello – good ideas pay off over and over again.
