A while back we reported on the epic CONvergence slated for March 29-31, 2019 when WonderCon, C2E2, Planet Comic Con and Silicon Valley Comic Con were all slated to run.
Since then Silicon Valley has moved to August, and now the date eased up considerably with the announcement that Chicago’s C2E2 is moving a week earlier. ReedPOP has announced the new dates of March 22-24.
“There are multiple considerations when changing the dates on a convention of this size,” says ReedPOP Event Director Mike Armstrong. “Shifting one week earlier allows C2E2 to spread out over more McCormick Place, makes hotel rooms more readily available for fans and puts us in a better position to get big name talent and exhibitors that our fans want to see. Plus with Star Wars Celebration happening just a few weeks later, we ultimately felt moving C2E2 up a week would be best for the city of Chicago and allow us to put on the biggest and best event we could for our 10th anniversary.”
I’m told that the move wasn’t specifically because of the Comic Con crush, but with Star Wars Celebration taking place April 11-15 at McCormick Place, it did make sense to spread things out a little.
Also this should give Planet Comic Con more breathing room, as WonderCon is in a distinctly different geographic region.
Meanwhile, ReedPOP’s new show Keystone Comic Con in Philadelphia, is ramping up for its September 14-16 debut. GUests include Frank Miller, Doctor Who and Big Bird. It seems like ReedPOP is building up this show to become a big east coast show while New York Comic Con patiently waits for the new wing of the Javits in 2021.
