Welcome to The Beat’s crowdfunding round-up: a collection of some of our favorite campaigns from the week including one-shots, on-goings, anthologies and everything in-between. This week we’re checking out the queer horror graphic novel, Let Me Out, the lupine-centric anthology, A Howl, and more.

Let’s get started!

LET ME OUT – A Queer Horror Graphic Novel

Creators: Emmett Nahil (writer), George Williams (artist)
Goal: $18,000
End date: June 2, 2021
Goodies: The PDF is $15, the deluxe version is $30, and higher tiers include patches, prints, and more.

A group of four punk friends, an occult murder, a shadowy government agency, and Satan. What could possibly go wrong?

Satanic Panic is on the rise in Columbiana, New Jersey, and with no leads as to the actual occult roots of disappearances, four friends become the community’s number one suspects. This is the onset of Let Me Out, a queer horror graphic novel about becoming scapegoats for the altars of power and finding joy even when things are bleak. It’s a 185+ page, full-color graphic novel gorgeous interiors, and you can check out the first ten pages over on the campaign page.

Themes of artificiality, music and memory, religion and robots converge in the world of Uncanny Valley—Archive 001, a melancholic anthology spanning several mediums. It totals about 80-pages with four feature stories, two critical essays examining the blurring of technology and reality, a pin-up gallery featuring art from Fell Hound, Don Austin, and Louis Greaves, and an original prose story from Rick Quinn.

Venture back to the uncompromising and harsh world of Lad and The Family. Are You Willing To Face The Forest?

The neo-noir-inspired miniseries, Lad, is back with its third issue. For the unfamiliar, the titular character belongs to a mob-like organization known as The Family. He’s a bit of a grunt, but there is something special about him. He sees things in a surreal-meets-crime story drawn in an expressive black-and-white style. Check out a preview and, if you’re just hearing about Lad, reviews over on the campaign page.

Kaijus & Cowboys

Creators: Matthew Blair (writer), Frankie B. Washington (artist)
Goal: $2,000
End date: May 30, 2021
Goodies: grab the PDF for $5, get the physical version for $10, or pledge more for patches, stickers, and more.

On an alien planet, a lone cowboy robot known only as “The Hunter” confronts a herd of kaiju monsters that threaten his fellow robots.

The name says it all, folks. This 20-page comic is set on an alien world being settled by robots who are completely unaware of the giant monsters they’re sharing ground with. After they finally get sick of the kaiju stampeding through town, they send out a specialist robot known as the Hunter to fight back. Kaijus & Cowboys is Western meets Kaiju meets sci-fi – the art is completely finished, and all the team needs to make this comic a reality, is a little help.
