Chip Zdarsky and Jason Loo, the writer and artist behind the Eisner-winning Comixology Originals graphic novel Afterlift, have teamed up again for another series for the digital comics giant. Their new book, The All-Nighter, will debut on Comixology next year. Zdarsky and Loo are joined by the rest of their Afterlift co-creators, including colorist Paris Alleyne, letterer Aditya Bidikar, and editor Alison O’Toole, on the new series, which follows a group of vampires who are also occasional superheroes.

Here’s how Comixology describes The All-Nighter:

Welcome to The All-Nighter, the only diner in town where you can get coffee and a meal from sunset to sunrise! The staff are friendly (kind of) and happy to serve you (sometimes), and it would never cross their minds to drink their customers’ blood. . . .

Alex is bored—flipping burgers for strangers all night is no way for a vampire to live. But he and his fellow vampires Joy, Cynthia, and Ian have agreed to blend into human society. Inspired by superhero movies, one of the few passions in his un-life, Alex decides to don a cape and start fighting bad guys. But his decision will have bigger consequences than he realizes—for himself and for everyone he wants to protect.

In addition to release digitally, The All-Nighter will also receive a print release from Dark Horse Comics, as part of the ongoing collaboration between the two publishers to bring Comixology Original titles to print. Additionally, the series is already being developed by Amazon Studios as an original series.

In a statement accompanying the announcement, Zdarsky and Loo both expressed their enthusiasm for bringing the full Afterlift team back together for the new book:

“Working on AFTERLIFT was an amazing experience, especially getting to see the beautiful pages coming in from Jason, Paris and Aditya!” said Zdarsky. “I knew I wanted to work with them again immediately, and I’m super grateful that we have the chance with The All-Nighter! It’s a ton of fun and I hope everyone loves it as much as I do!”

“I’m really excited to be part of a series that offers a unique and really fun take on the superhero genre,” says Loo. “Every issue has a surprise that will get readers hooked and wondering: ‘who’s gonna show up next?!'”

Afterlift was an incredibly entertaining read, and this new book from the team looks like a lot of fun. Full details on the digital release schedule have not yet been announced, but the print collection of The All-Nighter is due out from Dark Horse on February 15th, 2022.
