Bryan Hill Announces New BATMAN AND THE OUTSIDERS Series Coming from DC

After dancing around questions about it on Twitter for months, writer Bryan Hill has confirmed, in a newly-published Washington Post interview, that a new Batman & The Outsiders series is coming soon from DC. The series, written by Hill and featuring art by Dexter Soy, will spin out of “On The Outside,” Hill’s fill-in arc on Detective Comics, the final issue of which is in stores today. The new team will include past Outsiders Batman, Black Lightning, and Katana, as well as new members Orphan (Cassandra Cain) and The Signal.

Batman & The Outsiders were originally introduced in 1983 as a team formed by Batman to take on missions that the Justice League was unwilling or unable to tackle. The team has existed off-and-on in one form or another ever since, both with and without the Dark Knight in the lead. A return for the classic team was most recently teased in the pages of Dark Days: The Forge, and Hill’s Detective storyline has reunited Batman with former teammates Black Lightning and Katana.

Release details and story info are still forthcoming from DC. In the Post interview, Hill had this to say about the title:

“All I’ll say is, it is a team book with Batman in it, but the safety is off,” Hill said. “Hopefully it will be surprising and thrilling in ways that I don’t think people will quite expect. I’m becoming known a bit for a certain kind of intensity in my work and I think this Outsiders project will also continue on in that pathway.”

  1. I’d be more excited if there weren’t already a million new series every month. But I am intrigued and think this should be a good creative team. There were rumblings that this arc might be a trial balloon for more Outsiders content.
