AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR bumps up a week to April 27th

As if you needed another surprise for the day, but just in case you didn’t get enough after the reveal of DC’s Sandman Universe and Marvel’s new Amazing Spider-Man creative team…Marvel Studios announced today that Avengers: Infinity War would getting pushed up a week and will now see release on April 27th instead of its original May 5th date.

Quite a late in the game type development from a major release, but it makes sense…seeing as how late April is looking to be an extraordinarily weak time at the box office – the biggest thing opening that weekend was the Emily Blunt/John Krasinski animated adventure Animal Crackers.

Also, this clears up a little bit of the glut that was shaping up in May with Deadpool 2 having moved right between both Infinity War and Solo. I won’t say Infinity War was running away from Deadpool 2, which also looking to make a pretty serious mint, but I won’t say it wasn’t either.

Here’s how Marvel Studios made the announcement on twitter, with a major starring role for Robert Downey Jr:

Another factor for this move? Limiting of overseas spoilers, which has been an issue with a lot of the Marvel Studios product that hits the International markets first. With everyone getting it at the same time, that nips a little bit of that problem in the bud too.

  1. This sound like the same situation, when Superman Returns was bumped up by two days back in 2006 (original June 30 – then to June 28); which ran up against the Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest. Looks like Marvel is playing too gain more revenue; just so their shareholders can be happy for more income; over loss to a possible Solo: A Star Wars Story (possible failure).

By the way, I think Marvel Studios is just making excuses about Deadpool 2 (possible successful sequel).
