Around the sales charts: Death Note gets a bump

5

Every so often I take a little snapshot of what’s selling ion Amazon, iBooks and elsewhere. It’s only a moment in time for most of these, but trends emerge. For more detailed analysis I direct you to our own David Carter’s weekly Amazon charts.

AMAZON

#1: Death Note (All-in-One Edition)
#2: Star Wars: Darth Vader Vol. 1: Vader (Darth Vader (2015-2016))
#3: Deadpool, Vol. 1: Secret Invasion
#4: Persepolis: The Story of a Childhood (Pantheon Graphic Novels)
#5: Ms. Marvel Vol. 1: No Normal (Ms. Marvel Series)
#6: Attack on Titan Vol. 1
#7: Guardians of the Galaxy, Vol. 1: Cosmic Avengers
#8: Fun Home: A Family Tragicomic
#9: Star Wars Vol. 1: Skywalker Strikes (Star Wars (2015-))
#10: Captain Marvel Vol. 1: Higher, Further, Faster, More

— huh, well that Netflix Death Note movie wasn’t received with much enthusiasm but there’s a bump for it for the week. Otherwise, both Ms Marvel and Captain Marvel seem to be doing okay, despite the naysayers out there.

AMAZON/KINDLE

#1: Star Wars: Darth Vader Vol. 1: Vader (Darth Vader (2015-2016))
#2: Deadpool, Vol. 1: Secret Invasion
#3: Ms. Marvel Vol. 1: No Normal (Ms. Marvel Series)
#4: Attack on Titan Vol. 1
#5: Guardians of the Galaxy, Vol. 1: Cosmic Avengers
#6: Star Wars Vol. 1: Skywalker Strikes (Star Wars (2015-))
#7: Captain Marvel Vol. 1: Higher, Further, Faster, More
#8: Talented (Talented Saga Book 1)
#9: Amazing Spider-Man Vol. 1: The Parker Luck
#10: Astonishing X-Men, Vol. 1: Gifted

— Both Captain and Ms Marvels once again appear. Marvel is strong overall.

AMAZON/DC

#1: Watchmen
#2: V for Vendetta
#3: Batman: The Dark Knight Returns 30th Anniversary Edition
#4: Wonder Woman Vol. 3: The Truth (Rebirth)
#5: Batman: The Killing Joke, Deluxe Edition
#6: Flashpoint
#7: Batman: Year One
#8: Batman: The Long Halloween
#9: The Outsiders
#10: Batman: The Dark Knight: Master Race (Dark Knight III)

— Talk about your backlist perennials! The ouTsider is a mistake (no SE Hinton here) but otherwise Flashpoint and the new Wonder Woman break up Alan Moore and Frank Miller’s Greatest Hits.

AMAZON/MARVEL

#1: Deadpool, Vol. 1: Secret Invasion
#2: Ms. Marvel Vol. 1: No Normal (Ms. Marvel Series)
#3: Guardians of the Galaxy, Vol. 1: Cosmic Avengers

#8: The Punisher Vol. 1: Black and White
#9: Spider-Man Vol. 1: Brand New Day
#10: Daredevil By Mark Waid Vol. 1

— Hm, now this is interesting. Marvel’s backlist as never been as loaded as DC’s but the first volumes of Ms Marvel and Captain Marvel seem to be stuck on there, along with Deadpool and some Guardians stuff. And Peter Parker of course.

AMAZON/IMAGE

#1: The Walking Dead Volume 28
#2: Paper Girls Volume 3

#7: Paper Girls Volume 1
#8: The Walking Dead: Here’s Negan
#9: Paper Girls Volume 2
#10: Saga Vol. 6

— No surprises here –  Brian K Vaughan and Waking Dead rule the roost, although the Hugo-winning Monstress seems t be coming on strong.

AMAZON/DARK HORSE

#1: The Legend of Korra: Turf Wars Part One
#2: The Art of Rick and Morty
#3: The Legend of Korra Turf Wars Part Two
#4: World of Warcraft Chronicle Volume 2
#5: The Legend of Korra: Turf Wars Part One
#6: The Legend of Zelda: Art & Artifacts
#7: World of Warcraft: Chronicle Volume 1
#8: The Legend of Zelda: Hyrule Historia
#9: Plants vs. Zombies Volume 1: Lawnmageddon
#10: Serenity: No Power in the ‘Verse (Serenity: Firefly Class 03-K64)

— The only thing that isn’t a video game or The Last Airbender is a lone volume of Serenity. Lousy husband or no, Joss Whedon has quite a presence on these charts.

  1. For the Marvel stuff on Amazon (and even some of the others, like Attack on Titan volume 1), I wonder if they count people “checking out” items via Prime Reading on the charts. All of those items are in Prime Reading right now.

  2. @mazzm
Possibly? It’s also available to read for free for the millions of Prime and/or Kindle Unlimited subscribers (which is a good thing!).

Just kinda wish they’d separate out Kindle Unlimied from Paid.
