What started as a game for the PlayStation 2 is now a movie spawning the same game for the PlayStation 4. When it comes to paradox no characters have had bigger ones than the furry lombax named Ratchet and his tiny robot friend Clank. Games, comics, and now a movie; Wondercon was treated to a special session showing what’s in store for Insomniac Games most beloved characters when they come to theaters soon.

On the panel were film creators Kevin Monroe, founder of Blockade Entertainment Brad Foxhoven.

The pair began by talking about the unique adaptation of movies that come from games. Fans more intimately know these characters since in gaming you’ll spend anywhere from 20-30hrs with them when you play video games.

While the game never relied on big actors to voice their characters; making the Ratchet & Clank movie gave producers a way to incorporate new characters that meant a door to bring in Hollywood’s elite was wide open. In the film  Paul Giamatti will voice Chairman Drek, Grimroth is voiced by John Goodman, Bella Thorne will be voicing Kora, and Rosario Dawson is in the film as Elaris. True to game Jim Ward will be lending his acting prowes to Captain Quark along with the franchise’s James A Taylor as Ratchet and David Kaye as Clank. The big bad of the movie… Rocky himself, Sylvester Stallone as Victor Von Ion.

No panel  is complete without clips and this panel did not disappoint. The sequence where Ratchet and Clank first meet was shown. James Taylor, David Kaye and Bella Thore joined the panel. All three played off each other on stage in their character voices which if it’s any indication means the movie will be incredible. When things go too raucous, the lights dropped and another clip was shown this one a scene showing Ratchet get his cadet armor and the over the top weapons the franchise is best known for. Groovitron, Sheepinator, Ryno, Mr. Zurkon, will be among some of the recognizable weapons in the film in addition to lots of new ones.

Bella Thorne lobbied to play another character in pop culure. If she had her way she’d be playing Catwoman or Poison Ivy. All of which led another clip featuring Thorne’s character in the film, Kora.

Perhaps the best marketing for the film is the game coming out just ahead of the movie. Ratchet & clank for the PS4 will be the story from the movie told through the eyes of Captain Quark. Each can be enjoyed on their own but will make a complete tale when done together.

A few neat details came about from the audience Q&A to close out the panel. There will be tons of easter eggs from every game in the movie but no specific ones were given. Another film is still to early to call and will depend on the films success at release. A final clip was shown while even more people lined up to ask questions. Nothing specific to the plot but a fun scene where Ratchet and Clank are tossed about a falling ship.

The group is also doing the Sly Cooper movie, but at this time there’s nothing they can show the crowd. With that the panel came to an end.

This movie might be a sleeper hit. It definitely has the necessary elements die hard fans of the franchise are looking for, yet all the clips have enough character to grab audiences who don’t play video games. Regardless we can catch the Ratchet & Clank movie when it comes to theaters on April 26, 2016.
