It’s been quiet on the Wizard front for a while, but they’ve just made some changes to their 2018 show schedule: three shows are being added. Winston-Salem, Springfield-Mo, and Montgomery. Tulsa will return replacing OKC. And dates for the Austin and Sacramento shows have been added. Finally the Madison, WI show has a new date.
In general the new 16 show schedule backs up reports that Wizard would be focusing on smaller markets. They join these already scheduled shows:

  • April 13-15, Portland, Ore., Oregon Convention Center

  • May 17-20, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania Convention Center

  • June 1-3, Des Moines, Iowa, Iowa Events Center

  • June 8-10, Columbus, Ohio, Greater Columbus Convention Center

  • *July 13-15, Boise, Idaho, Boise Centre

  • August 23-26, Chicago, Donald E. Stephens Convention Center

Here’s all the changes and additions:
  • New show in Winston-Salem, N.C., August 3-5, Benton Convention Center
  • New show in Springfield, Mo., October 26-28, University Plaza Hotel & Convention Center
  • New show in Montgomery, Ala., November 9-11, The Renaissance Montgomery Hotel & Spa at the Convention Center
  • Return to Tulsa, Okla., September 7-9, Cox Business Center (moved from Oklahoma City, originally scheduled Oct. 26-28)
  • Return to Austin, Texas, September 21-23, Austin Convention Center (event was not on original 2018 schedule)
  • Return to Sacramento, Calif., October 5-7, Cal Expo (event was not on original 2018 schedule; previously this event was held at Sacramento Convention Center)
  • Madison, Wis., moved to November 30-December 2, Alliant Energy Center (originally scheduled Sept. 21-23)

Wizard has been roughed up a bit in the financials of late, but the convention market hasn’t maxed out yet. Maybe this smaller market strategy will shore up profits.

  1. Once again hopes are dashed for the three fans who had their fingers crossed for Wizard World Peoria.

On the upside, the Renaissance Hotel in Montgomery is a very nice facility…
