Have you ever wondered about how much work goes into creating the art for the comics you read? If you have, you should know: it’s a lot. But I have a feeling that artists like Tyler Crook, the illustrator of ComiXology Originals’ The Stone King, would tell you that it’s worth it.

On December 19th, ComiXology Originals will release The Stone King #2. Drawn by Crook and written by Kel McDonald, this story follows a young Stoneport thief named Ave. Under her community’s rite of passage into adulthood, she has to prove herself– and she decides to do it by stealing from a “mighty giant who roams the lands.” Ultimately, she succeeds in gathering healing moss from it and also gains a giant gem as a prize, but Ave will soon find that perhaps the crime is not worth the punishment…

In a Beat exclusive, watch a master work as Crook takes you through a process video of the creation of the cover to The Stone King #2. Crook films every step of the process from inking to the initial application of watercolors, shading, and more. It’s a visual feast to behold and is sure to give you even more respect for the hard work that goes into creating the comics you love.

The Stone King #2 will be available for purchase on December 19th.

The Stone King’s wrath is destroying the city. Everything Ave’s ever known is in rubble or will be soon. She thinks she can fix things. The only problem is she’s under arrest.

Part of the comiXology Originals line of exclusive digital content only available on comiXology and Kindle. On release, this title is available as part of comiXology Unlimited, Kindle Unlimited and Prime Reading.
