With award-winning books like The Fifth Beatle and The Adventures of Superhero Girl, Dark Horse has had a fair amount of success in the original graphic novel market in the past few years. The publisher looks to continue that trend with the announcement today of Conspiracy of Ravens, a young adult hardcover graphic novel written by the husband-and-wife duo of Leah Moore and John Reppion, and featuring art by Sally Jane Thompson.
The book focuses on Anne, a teenage girl who discovers that her family has a secret magical history after a relative she never knew dies and leaves her a mystical family heirloom. Kids uncovering hidden magic powers within themselves is well-trod ground in young adult literature, and based on the description of this book provided by Dark Horse it sounds like there’ll be some family drama involved for Anne, as well as some unexpected opposition to her development of her abilities.
Moore and Reppion are perhaps best known for Albion, the Wildstorm book they worked on with Moore’s father, Alan, who’s written a few things you may have heard of. In addition they’ve written for characters like Witchblade, Doctor Who, and Sherlock Holmes, among others. The duo has previously contributed to The Dark Horse Book of Monsters, and this will be their first standalone project with the publisher. Sally Jane Thompson is the creator of the original graphic novel Atomic Sheep, and has contributed to the Womanthology and Fresh Romance anthology collections. A Conspiracy of Ravens will be her first Dark Horse work.
