It’s a great cover, and, if you don’t mind me mentioning it, there’s also a Jaime Hernandez illustration in this issue.
I was never a fan of “New Yorker art” but I think this is a very nice cover.
Very classy!
Hey wait — how did I get on the marquee of Radio City?
Tomine is a class act. This is a fantastic piece and I’m a big fan. Meeting him again at last week’s book expo was a pleasure and it was great to leave the convention with a signed poster from him. I’m very much looking forward to his next collected work.
Good on him. I was a huge fan of the Optic Nerve mini comic. The new stuff is a bit too precious for me but I’m glad to see his art getting a wider audience.
Awww, this is adorable!
I can’t get the horrendous thought out of my head that such a talented artist actually rode in one of those gaudy tour buses for reference!! ;)
Sorry, but that is such a pretentious cover. So the girl specifically gets on a SIGHTSEEING BUS to ignore the sightseeing and read Catcher in the Rye? Wow, that’s like going out of you way to be a snob.
Or maybe the point is that there’s more than one way to experience NY?
That reading CATCHER IN TH RYE is as much of a NY experience as riding a tour bus?
It’s a lovely peice of illustration… not sure why you’d want to jump to the most bizarrely negative assumptions…
Maybe she was all enthusiastic at first, but quickly got bored so pulled out her book. So many possibilities! (Love the drawing).
I think that she’s with her mom.
lovely cover. tomine rules!
