Here’s an event that snuck up on us: An comics symposium organized by New Uork University’s Gallatin School of Independent study called GallaCon: A Pow! Wow! . The event runs tonight from 6:30 to 9:30 and includes three panel discussions, one of which The Beat will be on. The event is free but you must RSVP in the link.

With NYC Comic-Con approaching, comic books are heating up the Big Apple, and Gallatin is joining the celebration. The Offices of Student Life and Alumni Relations have partnered with prominent comic groups to create GallaCon—the School’s inaugural comic book convention.

GallaCon will feature three panel discussions that analyze the intersection of comic books and aspects of contemporary culture. In addition, a small-group workshop open to the Gallatin community will offer the chance for students interested in comic book careers to learn how to break into the field from industry experts.

Embrace your inner nerd and get a unique perspective on comic book culture. Meet Gallatin alumni who are comic book professionals; learn about careers in the industry; indulge in food and beverages; and mingle with enthusiastic fans.

Please note: Costumes are not only acceptable; they are ENCOURAGED. It wouldn’t be a proper comic convention without them.

Then ICV2 tomorrow, parties, then four days of Con.
Then back to work on Monday.
And so it goes… murmee murmee.

Next year, I’m getting a hotel in Midtown. It will be Beat Central, where staffers can grab a nap or stash swag.
