Hopefully the horrific fires in California won’t have much impact on this weekend COMIC ARTS LOS ANGELES Festival (CALA), to be held at HOMENETMEN ARARAT (ELEVATE FITNESS CENTER) at 5000 Delores St. in Atwater Village.
CALA is probably the one show I’ve never been to that I most desire to attend, mixing the vibrant animation scene of LA with the growing indie comics movement. The programming looks outstanding, the guest list includes Michael DeForge, but really a pageant of young, amazing cartoonists, with Maia Kobabe, Hellen Jo, Sophia Foster Dimino and many many more. Fires be damned, I wish I could go.
