Tomorrow night from 6-8 I’ll be doing my first book signing in 20 years! And it’s for the same book!

Dover has rereleased The Art of Alfredo Alcala – Secret Teachings of a Comic Book Master in a handsome and affordable new edition. And I’ll be singing it tomorrow, 10/21 at JHU Comics.

JHU Comic Books
32 E 32nd St. (between Madison and Park)
New York, New York 10016

AND there will be bonuses and surprises:

BONUS! I’ll be giving a short talk and slideshow on Alfredo, his art and the history of Filipino comics. This could easily be a long talk, but i’ll keep it brisk for the event. Come early for the talk.

BONUS!! My mother may be making a surprise appearance.

BONUS!!! Mets vs Cubs afterwards!

This book was labor of love for me and Phil Yeh when it came out in 1994. And it’s still a tribute to a fascinating person and a unique branch of comics history. Hope to see you all there tomorrow.

  1. Congratulations, Heidi! I bought a copy of this and I’m really looking forward to reading/ingesting it. Alcala was a great talent and this showcase of his work will be a great addition to any library of masterworks. Bravo!

  2. I love Alfredo Alcala’s work – He couldn’t draw a truly bad panel if his life depended on it.
Some of his inks are the best Conan artwork I’ve ever seen (up there with Frazetta). Loads of detail and ‘rendering’ but without getting unclear – something that a lot of artists can and should learn from.

And yes, you’re not lying – the book is indeed affordable! Congratulations with the relaunch – I hope it does well!

  3. Just ordered this earlier this week after seeing it by chance on the recommendations while browsing Amazon. I immediately put the book in my cart for Check-Out as Alcala is one of my all-time favorites.
Very much looking forward to this!
