A bit of idle gossip in Dean Haspiel’s account of his Emmy experience has tongues wagging everywhere:

met and spoke to the lovely Stana Katic, star of TV show, CASTLE, and told her how much I loved her in Frank Miller’s SPIRIT movie [she was my favorite part of the movie]. I have a very short list of who I would cast to play my very own Jane Legit character [Billy Dogma’s better half] and Stana is on that list. Stana told me she was in the midst of creating a new comic book and was in talks to act in a movie version of Warren Ellis’ THE AUTHORITY.

Which no one had heard of before, least of all AUTHORITY creator Warren Ellis:

I don’t own THE AUTHORITY, and DC are certainly not compelled to tell me about anything regarding the book.

What an odd thing.

(Also in the link, Matt Fraction makes the best Haspiel joke ever.)

THE AUTHORITY, by Ellis and Bryan Hitch is pretty much the ultimate fin de siécle comic, a hyper, unsparing book that asked “Well, why DON’T the superheroes just take over?” leading the way for the Ultimate line, setting off most of Wildstorm’s output for the next half decade and introducing the whole “Widescreen” concept. It’s hard to imagine a comic coming out nowadays with Batman/Superman analogues as gay lovers, let alone a movie, but Stana Katic would make a hot Jenny Sparks, if that’s who she’s playing.

Of course, the tittle tattle has probably ruined any chance of this getting made.
