One of the most anticipated games of 2019 is the remake of the milestone Resident Evil 2 game which originally launched on the first PlayStation. We’ve seen this, new, built from the ground up version of the game for modern consoles blow people’s minds since it debuted at E3 2018. For Tokyo Game Show, Capcom, have released a new RE2 trailer highlighting the fan favorite characters like Leon S. Kennedy, Claire Redfield, and wearing a sensible spy trenchcoat…Ada Wong. Warning, the trailer is graphic.

Delve deeper into the gripping events taking over Raccoon City, and follow the journey of rookie police officer Leon S. Kennedy and college student Claire Redfield as they begin to uncover what’s behind the terrifying zombie outbreak. As both Leon and Claire embark on their own campaigns independently, their collective experiences piece together a comprehensive story uncovering the malicious motives behind the nightmare engulfing the city, the truth behind the nefarious Umbrella Corporation, and the Birkin family’s role in the tragedy. The trailer also introduces some of the evil foes and potential allies that players can expect to encounter including the iconic series femme fatale Ada Wong, mysterious Annette Birkin and Chief Officer Brian Irons. -Capcom

The trailer shows off parts of the story influenced by key moments from the original game including Leon’s introduction to Ada. But it isn’t a frame for frame remake of the original RE2, so much of the tension shown in the trailer was never present on the PS1. It looks due in part to being exposed to more of Raccoon City than ever before. We’ll find out soon if those therapy bill inducing sewer spiders made the cut as January is just around the corner.

Resident Evil 2 launches for the PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One systems on January 25, 2019.
