I thought the most recent trailer for Star Wars: The Force Awakens was very pretty and artfully made, I also thought it did a not so great job actually selling the movie that its leading up to. Abrams and Disney know that they already have at least 2 billion in the bank at this point, so they can basically do whatever, short of putting Jar Jar Binks on the screen. David Ehrlich waxes brilliantly on the subject in his piece for Rolling Stone.
Luckily, this new trailer for the Japanese market adds just enough plot (and character names AND BB8) that I think I have my head wrapped around what’s going on now, at least so far as John Boyega and Daisy Ridley fit in.
Between Age of Ultron, Spectre, Fantastic Four, and Jurassic World; it’s hard to argue that 2015 has been a particularly great year for blockbusters, Mad Max: Fury Road and/or Ant-Man excluded (I still haven’t seen the latter, though based on the comments, I think it has a good deal of fans here). Fingers crossed that this new Star Wars entry pulls off a heck of a salvage job!
