I’m only barely keeping up with what’s going on with Arrow these days. I watched the first few episodes and then the Constantine appearance in the fifth episode. I’m still not quite grabbed like I wish I was; in comparison, The Flash has been an utter delight and may even be more fun this season with its multiversal hijinx and another mysterious villain who made one hell of an appearance this week.

The eighth episodes of both shows will be their annual crossover event, and today, The CW released synopses for both entries:

For The Flash, the episode is titled “Legends of Today” and airs December 1st:

In its second major crossover event with “Arrow,” Vandal Savage (guest star Casper Crump) arrives in Central City and sets his sights on Kendra Saunders (guest star Ciara Renée). After Vandal attacks Kendra and Cisco, they turn to Barry for help. Realizing how dangerous Vandal is, Barry takes Kendra to Star City and asks Oliver and team to hide her until he can figure out how to stop Vandal. However, things quickly go from bad to worse when a man with wings AKA Hawkman (guest star Falk Hentschel) shows up and flies off with Kendra. Meanwhile, Harrison develops a serum to make Barry run faster and asks Jay (guest star Teddy Sears) to test it out.

And on Arrow, they go with the moniker of “Legends of Yesterday”, airing on December 2nd:

Oliver and Barry Allen take Kendra Saunders and Carter Hall to a remote location to keep them hidden from Vandal Savage while they figure out how to defeat him. Malcolm arranges a meeting between Vandal, Green Arrow and The Flash that doesn’t go as planned. Meanwhile, Felicity, Thea, Diggle and Laurel work with Team Flash to come up with a weapon powerful enough to destroy Vandal Savage.

Obviously, both parts are a play on the upcoming midseason spin-off, DC’s Legends of Tomorrow and the battle against Vandal Savage will resume there. Outside of Darkseid, Savage is easily my favorite DC villain, so I’m quite excited about his appearance here.

How about all of you? Any thoughts on the current seasons of both shows and where they’re headed?

  1. M girlfriend and I are all caught up on both shows. Her parents are only caught up on THE FLASH. I foresee another evening of headaches, phone calls, and 20 questions, because they refuse to catch up on ARROW.

  2. I had the blessing of worshiping with Storyline on this particular Sunday and was able to hear this conversation. Great stuff and well worth anyone’s time to listen. Stay with it all the way…

  3. Redneck Texan’s suggestion reminds me of the Thirty Years War (early 17th century) — the last real religious war in the West. Estimates put the dead in central Europe at about 30% (with the help of plague and famine). But the fighting was vicious. However, it was followed by a religious toleration movement, reinvigoration of the “just war” doctrine, and the nation-state as an identity. Religion became a personal matter.
