Sometimes in corporate comics, men in suits strive for creators to produce material that is more in line with other works in order to create a shared universe. This makes it hard for writers and artists to really maintain their own distinctive voices. However, sometimes a project can fit in the genre of a creator-owned work and editors and creators have picked just the right creative team. Such is the case for Mars Attacks: Occupation by writer John Layman (Chew) and Andy Kuhn (Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutanimals.)

The comic, (announced via CBR) is a five-issue miniseries from IDW. The publisher hasn’t yet announced plans for how frequently they are shipping the series or when fans can anticipate seeing the first issue. While details are sparse, we know that the Martian Invasion on Planet Earth was successful, leaving Ruby Johnson the only person interested in putting a stop to the oncoming invasion. Artists John McCrea (The Demon) and Ryan Browne (God Hates Astronauts) are drawing the covers. The story will also feature EC homage covers drawn by Kuhn and Browne’s covers are based off of the old Topps card series.
