200705310302Akiva Goldsman…boo. Mark Verheiden…Yay! :

DC Comics’ superteam Teen Titans is getting the big-screen treatment courtesy of Warner Bros. Pictures.

The live-action adaptation is being produced by Akiva Goldsman and Kerry Foster through their Weed Road banner, while Mark Verheiden has been brought on board to write the script.

[snip] Goldsman said the tone will be consistent with such recent Warners’ comic book fare as “Batman Begins,” “Superman Returns” and the upcoming “Watchmen.”

  1. Oh, good. Akiva Goldsman is producing a superis movie, not writing one!
So, shall we play casting canasta? Who should be Nightwing? Starfire? Terra?

  2. Teen Titans will be similar in tone to Superman Returns and Batman Begins? Does that mean a Teen Titans movie will suck?

Perhaps Teen Titans could strike a middle-ground between Spider-Man and Superman Returns. I’d actually prefer a Titans film that respects the material, but doesn’t take it so seriously that it strains all the fun from it.

  3. The problem with team superhero movies is that they have to introduce the team and explain their powers. Think about great ensemble action films like The Magnificent Seven and a large part of the film is spent introducing the characters – throw in the fact that they’ll have to explain the powers as well and you’re an hour into the film without anything happening!

And what’s the deal with all of Marv’s work-for-hire creations getting movie & TV deals; it’s almost like someone’s out to get him!!

  4. I always feel like they explain it all more than they need to. Do audiences really care about origins? I think they can just see a bunch of superheroes and they’ll be cool. It’s us geeks who worry origins. I think it could go unexplained but I hear Hollywood doesn’t see it that way? I hate origin pictures. I wish they’d just start with a solid story.

Anyway, I hope it’s not too dark. The Teen Titans need to have the feeling of being a family. This is important. I hope they stick to that.

  5. I think they should go the Mystery Men route and start with a world already populated by superheroes, just get right to the action. A few headlines and lines of exposition can establish the characters, then they meet up to fight a threat larger than they have dealt with individually.
All that said, I have faith in Mark Verheiden!

  6. Or go Bryan Singer’s route with X-MEN … Wolverine became the main character, the most “oridnary” … so, although he was super-cool, his abilities seemed rather down-to-earth compared to the other X-MEN.

Perhaps they could use ROBIN in the same manner. There’s a super-team forming, and he’s asked to join them … they could use his experience as a super-hero, blah blah … then get down to the main plot. It worked for the 1989 Batman film, it could work again, done right.

  7. “Teen Titans will be similar in tone to Superman Returns and Batman Begins? Does that mean a Teen Titans movie will suck?”

I know what you mean. Those movies seemed like Superman and Batman for people who don’t like Superman and Batman. All I can say is they better use real teenagers. I hate watching someone in there late 20’s acting like they’re in high school. At this point it really does want to make me throw up.

“Anyway, I hope it’s not too dark. The Teen Titans need to have the feeling of being a family. This is important. I hope they stick to that.”

Yeah, that’s what makes it good. I wouldn’t want it any other way.

  8. ‘Those movies seemed like Superman and Batman for people who don’t like Superman and Batman.’
    Amen
Batman Begins was all right, it was faithful and mythic. Superman Returns was a disaster – Hollywood wanted to sell Superman to people who already know Superman and effed it up.

  9. I hope the make cyborg like how he was in smallville and if he could turn his arm into a sonic canon then go back to a regular looking hand like to be like bionic man or woman and have skin on his body instead of all that medal on him. I mean that sounds pretty cool he can look human then turn into a fucking robot but still have a human brain and have a personality.
