By Cliff Biggers For three seasons now, Warren, Murphy and their ragtag band of survivors have fought against zombies and humans alike as they try to save the world in Syfy and Asylum’s Z Nation, an offbeat series that blends horror and humor to create a show unlike any other zombie tale on television. Now series co-creator […]
The boom in comics periodical publishers over the last few years has a first casualty: Double Take. The division of video game company Take Two Interactive, which was headed by former Marvel publisher Bill Jemas will shut down at the end of the month. The news was first reported at Bleeding Cool and independently confirmed by The Beat.
A lot of newish comics companies have launched of late—Double Take, Aftershock, Z2—and I’m guessing they would all like to have films made from their comics. Well, Double Take, the branch of gaming company Take Two that is run by former Marvel to exec Bill James, has hit that brass ring. Lions gate has signed […]
The FUBAR comic books might not be familiar to the traditional Wednesday Warrior, but they’re a major player in the growing zombie and anthology markets. Even though the one time it strayed from its anthology roots its Kickstarter raised over $95,000, FUBAR is committing to sharing a selection of short stories by a variety of […]
Once again, Stan Lee Media, the shell company that does nothing but line the pockets os lawyers with frivolous lawsuits, has been dealt a blow in their attempt to take over the world. The 9th Court of Appeals ruled that no, Stan Lee Media doesn’t not own Spider-Man.
I’ve been doing this daily comics news thing for 11 years, more or less, and if there is one thing which has remained consistent throughout those 11 years of comics industry tumult, it’s Stan Lee Media suing someone or something. I honestly don’t remember all the things they’ve sued, but it includes Stan Lee, Marvel (many times) Conan Properties, and Disney (many times). The suits usually claim that Stan Lee Media owns Spider-Man, or the Avengers or Conan or whatever someone is making a movie of, and the suits always involve insanely tortured legal claims over unrelated documents. The courts always rule against SLMi, as it’s called, but that doesn’t stop them. They keep coming back.
If we’re doing Halloween, then that seems like a great chance for me to catch up on Afterlife with Archie, the company’s first mature comic set in the world of their mascot. Now, I don’t know much about Archie other than “Sugar Sugar” – the comics aren’t released over in my part of the UK, […]
Empire of the Dead, George A. Romero’s next zombie story, will be published as a comic by Marvel. A fifteen-issue maxiseries, the comic will be drawn by Alex Maleev, with Arthur Suydam (no stranger to zombies himself) providing covers for the series. You can find the full announcement over on USA Today, written up by Brian Truitt. Steve […]
Having met KISS, Glee, and Nick Cannon, the Archie gang is now going undead in a new ongoing series called AFTERLIFE WITH ARCHIE that’s set after the zombie apocalypse has hit Riverdale. Yes, it’s The Walking Jughead. The surprise here? The series is written by Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, who has worked on such things as the […]
Or so this just released promo would indicate. The Robert Kirkman-penned (!) Marvel Zombies spinoff in 2005-6 was a bestseller for Marvel, leading to lots of rotting superhero covers. In the intervening time, zombies have lost none of their bite. (Sorry,) Like a zombie, this is a no brainer. Heidi MacDonald Heidi MacDonald is the […]
