A month or so ago, Oni Press announced that they would start taking Open Submission for new series. This essentially means that ANYONE can send them a comic pitch and someone will eventually look at it. Not too much else was discussed, but it certainly caused a buzz. Today, Oni Press posted their submission guidelines for their first wave and the date when people can let loose the floodgates.
Welcome to MATT CHATS, a weekly interview series in which I talk to a creator, consumer or seller of comics. This week I spoke with Gabriel “Gabo” Bautista, who is working on several projects right now including The Life After for Oni Press and Albert the Alien for Thrillbent. During that time he also managed […]
Welcome to MATT CHATS, a weekly interview with someone working in the comics industry. This week that person is Cory Casoni, and his job isn’t to create comics but to make others aware of them. After five years of marketing for Oni Press he moved on first to Namco-Bandei and then to help run Scott […]
by Zachary Clemente NYCC started all a-bluster with large announcements, crazy crowds, fantastic costuming, crowds, swathes of booths manned by insightful and fun comics publishers ready to show off their books; also crowds. I swung by The Oni Press Comicstravaganza panel to see what Oni Director of Publicity John Schork had in store for us […]
By Matt O’Keefe Charles Soule is beyond busy. Since Image/Shadowline published his rock fantasy 27 in 2010 he has gone on to write a number of comics from publishers including Archaia, DC, and Marvel. With his creator-owned Letter 44 he made his debut at Oni Press. I talked to him about the political science fiction series, making his […]
Blummin’ great news out today, as Oni Press have announced a release date for Volume 2 of Bad Machinery, John Allison’s webcomic. This follows on from the success of volume one, which collected together his story The Case of the Team Spirit. Due in March next year, volume 2 will collect The Case of the […]
With NYCC slowly engulfing the comic book world like an ominous cloud of smoke which may or may not be seeking to grab us and bash us into trees until we’re all dead, Oni Press have announced some of their plans for the convention. Alongside signings and panels featuring creators like Cullen Bunn and Antony […]
We’re almost reaching the end of San Diego Comic-Con 2013, but before packing her bags and heading back to Chicago, Megan Byrd (@comicbookcandy) has sent two last sets of photos from the festival. There’s cacti made out of yarn, Spider-Man being a dick to Darth Vader, all kinds of amazing cosplay, and shots from Archaia, Boom […]
[*spoilers throughout] I’ve been following Oni Press’s HELHEIM since it started and have been impressed with it all along, but some of the plot elements have finally started emerging that make it not only an interesting story, but a very promising one for a longer run. HELHEIM follows the life, death, and undead life of […]
It’s St George’s Day today, so to celebrate here’s an interview with the only other person on known record to have slain a dragon – Emma Vieceli, writer/artist for a number of graphic novels including Vampire Academy, Dragon Heir, and Avalon Chronicles. She’s also responsible for the artwork in Bates Motel on A&E, and is currently […]
Holding panels in the wood-panelled bowels of the Armory this year at MoCCA Fest did bring a certain gravitas to the proceedings even if the location was a little difficult to locate for the unfamiliar. When I arrived at the “Art as Profession: Creating, Promoting, and Making Money in Comics” panel at 11:30 on Sunday […]
I noticed a common feature in the comics I was reading this week, a feature that made them all compelling as stories: the role of the underdog pitted against overwhelming odds. Seeing the psychological reactions of the characters was an important part of the ride, but excellent artwork, particularly in executing fight scenes, left me […]
Color Scott Pilgrim is coming.
It was available at Comic-Con. And soon it will be available on-line. Soon meaning August 8th.
But to get the very rare Collector’s Editions (which includes the Evil Edition, along with all the sweet merch mentioned below and pictured above, like coins and prints and patches) you must watch and wait. And then crash the server, probably. Here are the details:
