Everyone’s a little puzzled by the strange choice of number on this issue, somewhere between a #0 traditional origin story and a #1 launch of what’s rumored to be a major contributor to the Marvel Universe this year and beyond in the lead up to the 2014 film release of GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY. If […]

Brian Michael Bendis took to the Marvel Conference Phone this week, to listen in awe to the sonorous sounds of the comics press. Talking about his imminent relaunch of Guardians of the Galaxy with Steve McNiven, he was joined on the call by editor Steve Wacker, who alternately sighed and yelped “NO” every time the writer revealed a little too much about the upcoming stories.

Their first event, at any rate. Today’s conference call was with Brian Michael Bendis, who will be writing a 10-issue event story for Marvel Now in March 2013. Age of Ultron will be split in half, with the first five issues drawn by Bryan Hitch, and the back five by Carlos Pacheco and Brandon Peterson.

Oh gosh, what mystery is this we spy? Some kind of book written by All-New X-Men’s Brian Michael Bendis and Wolverine & The X-Men’s Chris Bachalo, according to Marvel.com. And the teaser word is ‘Uncanny’. Well flip me, how are we ever going to guess what the ‘Uncanny’ refers to?

It’s time for another Marvel conference call, this time as Brian Michael Bendis and Nick Lowe talk about All-New X-Men #1. And I was there! Read on, to hear about villains, heroes, mutants…. and how I got cut off halfway through asking a question because my house had a power cut! Also: Stuart Immonen art! […]

NYCC: The X-Men in Marvel NOW!

x1

The X-Men panel has just ended at NYCC, revealing a few bits and pieces, but mostly just going over the basic premise for each of the titles in the Marvel NOWniverse. But there are some bits and pieces! And new art from Mike Del Mundo and Stuart Immonen! Here’s a rundown:

Marvel release a first look at All-New X-Men #1

Stuart Immonen’s artwork is one of the key selling points to, well, anything he is involved with, and All-New X-Men #1 is no exception. The premise of the book is that the original five members of the X-Men – Angel, Cyclops, Jean Grey, Iceman and Beast – have come to the present for some reason (no, there’s no sign of other founding X-Men Shortpack and Sage at this point in time). They are in the present, and they are… in the present. And Stuart Immonen is drawing it! So now you know the premise of the series in its entirety.

The regardless point being, Marvel have released some of Immonen’s pencils for the first issue of the series, written by Brian Michael Bendis. And unsurprisingly, they’re spiffing, corking, and several other 1960s adjectives.

More Finales: Defenders, Avengers Academy and Bendis' Avengers end in November

Rucka and Bendis sitting around rapping

Greg Rucka’s novel Alpha has just come out, and it’s the debut of a whole new thriller series for him. To promote it, he’s doing the rounds, including a chat with Brian Michael Bendis for publisher Mulholland Books. You really need to read the whole thing. It’s quite a relaxed and candid conversation:
