io9 is reporting that Syfy has put in a pilot script order for Roche Limit, based on the Image comic by Michal Moreci, Steve Seeley, Kyle Charles and Vic Malhotra.
This time around, the pilot is being produced by Freemantle Media and Heavy Metal, with Orphan Black’s Will Pascoe doing the adaption and in place as theoretical showrunner if it moves forward.
Roche Limit‘s first miniseries debuted in 2014 and Heavy Metal has been trying to shop for film and TV going back to at least 2015.
Roche Limit, the comic, is a blend of science fiction, noir and perhaps a bit of horror. Here’s Image’s description from the collected edition of the first miniseries:
“Our destiny is the stars, and I will lead us there.” Twenty years after this promise, billionaire Langford Skaargard’s dream of cosmic exploration is no more. Roche Limit, a colony situated on the cusp of a mysterious energy anomaly, is a melting pot of crime and terrible secrets. When Bekkah Hudson goes missing, the search to find her will plunge her sister and a cadre of the colony’s underworld figures into an odyssey that reveals a grim future for mankind.
