Well, this is really unexpected…

I haven’t kept up with Supergirl like I’ve wanted to, I haven’t even watched last night’s premiere, though I’ve got it on the DVR to mainline after dinner along with tonight’s episode of The Flash. But even without watching, I had an inkling that the move over to The CW was going increase the superhero quotient on the show a bit.

I just didn’t expect it to happen to Jimmy (James) Olsen.

According to Entertainment Weekly, who chatted with EP Andrew Kreisberg, James is donning the helmet of The Guardian:

These next few episodes are going to make him realize that being a photographer… is not enough for him, so he’s going to go on a pretty exciting career trajectory that we’re really pumped by. James is going to decide that he can no longer sit back and be a sidekick, so he’s going to decide to become a vigilante and he’s going to become Guardian — complete with the shield — which is going to cause a massive problem in his relationship with Kara [Melissa Benoist], because he has decided not to tell her.

Quite a weird switch. Olsen has a long history with Cadmus and Jim Harper (the comics version of The Guardian), but he’s never actually been The Guardian himself. Harper even popped up on the show last season, during a later episode entitled “Manhunter”.

I guess we’ll never get a chance to see Turtle Boy or Werewolf Jimmy at this rate!

This is how you can tell it’s a CW show.
