Aubrey Plaza mothers the antichrist in Little Demon with Danny DeVito and Dan Harmon

Dan Harmon, Danny & Lucy DeVito, and Aubrey Plaza get the pilot greenlight from FX this week on their upcoming animated comedy, Little Demon. The show, created by Darcy Fowler, Seth Kirschner and Kieran Valla is another in FX’s plan to bolster its animated slate – a trend that began awhile ago, but is only enhanced by the COVID-19 pandemic, and evidenced by the fact that Deadline is reporting production will begin as soon as next week, with Harmon acting as EP.

Little Demon follows a mother (Plaza) trying against the odds, to live a normal life. But that’s difficult when the father of her 13 year-old daughter (Lucy DeVito) is the Devil himself (Danny DeVito). The women’s attempt at mundanity in their Delaware home is constantly thwarted by Satan, who’s desperate to reclaim custody of his antichrist daughter.

Dracula director to helm Paramount’s adaptation of pandemic novel, Cold Storage

cold storage

Paramount tagged Dracula director Jonny Campbell to helm its upcoming adaptation of Cold Storage, the debut novel of Jurassic Park and Spider-Man (2002) screenwriter David Koepp. The project is reportedly a high priority, likely because of the premise. Pentagon bioterror operative Roberto Diaz finds a “highly mutative organism capable of extinction-level destruction,” which he buries in ~drum roll~ Cold Storage. Decades later, it somehow finds its way out and begins wreaking havoc on the world, spurring Diaz back into action with the help of two unwitting security guards. Because of the current, real world pandemic, a production date is uncertain, per Variety.

The Maisie Williams-lead thriller The Owners lands at RLJE Films in a deal for North American distribution rights. The thriller is based on a comic from Jeremiah artist Herrmann Huppen and his son and writer, Yves H. Set in the 90’s, the story follows a group of friends looking for a quick, less than legal paycheck. They pinpoint a safe filled with cash located in an empty house and what should be an easy job devolves into chaos when the homeowners return sooner than expected and the thieves are forced into a fight to survive. RLJE Films is planning on releasing digitally and theatrically in Fall 2020. Williams co-stars along with Jake Curran, Ian Kenny, Andrew Ellis, Sylvester McCoy, and Rita Tushingham. The Owners is the feature directorial debut of Julius Berg, who also co-wrote with Matthieu Gompel and Geoff Cox.

LEGO Group and Universal team up in a five-year deal for more movies

Following a long battle between several studios, Universal comes out as the winner in a bid to build a movie franchise deal with the LEGO Group. Looking back to a few years ago, when The LEGO Movie and The LEGO Batman Movie stole audiences hearts, it should come as no surprise that directors Phil Lord and Christopher Miller turned the bricks into such a hot entertainment commodity. With this recently struck agreement, Universal and LEGO Group will pair off for five years, crossing even more titles over into the already all-encompassing toy company.

The Great is a historical satire I need now

Billed as based on occasionally true facts, some of the time, The Great is a satirical comedic drama following the rise of Russian Empress Catherine the Great. The Hulu exclusive stars Elle Fanning in the title role, with a solid supporting cast including Nicholas Hoult, Phoebe Fox, Adam Godley, Gwilym Lee, Charity Wakefield, Douglas Hodge, Sacha Dhawan, Sebastian de Souza, Bayo Gbadamosi and Belinda Bromilow. Catherine’s story follows her humble beginnings as an idealistic girl arriving in Russia for an arranged marriage, only to find herself plunged into the petulant world of politics.
