While Marvel fans continue to lie in wait for the much-anticipated Avengers 4 trailer, folks involved with Marvel/Netflix’s The Punisher seem to be reveling in the ability to fly mostly under the radar with cryptic social media posts. We’ve seen tweets and Instagram posts that seem to point to a season two announcement from series stars Jon Bernthal, Ben Barnes and Jason R. Moore, but now the social media team for The Punisher is getting involved, too.

On Wednesday, the official Punisher Instagram posted a photo of Barnes as Billy Russo, a.k.a. Jigsaw, along with the caption, “Get ready, Billy.”

Get ready for what? This caption isn’t the same one stars of the show have been posting (“Tick. Tock.”), but it does seem to lean into the theory that something is coming. Perhaps the change in language, as well as the question itself, points to a trailer drop or other news about season two.

Despite Netflix canceling Iron Fist, Luke Cage and Daredevil, plans for The Punisher season two and Jessica Jones season three don’t seem to have been affected by the looming shadow of Disney’s streaming service just yet.

The timing of the Punisher post is also interesting, as it follows six days after Barnes posted a war photo of Billy with now-common caption, “Tick. Tock.”

Since all signs point to an epic showdown between Frank and Jigsaw in season two, perhaps this call-and-response, nearly one week apart, suggests that Punisher news is even closer than we thought.
