We all know what it’s like for the average attendee of Comic-Con — comics, lines, swag, expensive hot dogs — but what is it like for the Green Room crowd? Nerdlebrities are people too, and the first time appearance at Comic-Con is akin to going over the equator for sailors: following their debut, first-timers put on clothes of the opposite sex, are put in stocks, and forced to eat eggs in the shell.

Okay, maybe that isn’t quite what happens, but The Hollywood Reporter has been interviewing various nerdlebrities about their Con experiences and there is much to be gleaned.

Eureka’s Colin Ferguson reveals that slebs already have their own little tricks:

THR: Do you have pointers for first-time Comic-Con goers?

Ferguson: Do anything you want. Run around. There’s so much going on outside of the actual Convention Center. My note to any actor going down is: Bring a mask, that way you can walk around and be able to move quickly and see a bunch of stuff.

Aussie Ryan Kwanten (True Blodd, The Knights of Badassdom) wins some nerd points for going even further, even if it was about as smart as something Jason Stackhouse would do:

THR: What’s your favorite Comic-Con memory?

Kwanten: I was supposed to be tailing security with the True Blood cast and I don’t know how, but I lost track of him and I wandered out onto the convention floor by myself. I had more fun wandering around and seeing all the things I could possibly buy than being upstairs in the green room waiting to go out. They had to send out a search party to find me because I wasn’t exactly willing to go back on my own; I was having too much fun out there. It was really a visceral out-of-body experience.

Asked about his dream panel, Kwanten reminds us that the Hall H crowd doesn’t even rate the cartoonists: “Jon Favreau, Harrison Ford, George Lucas, Steven Spielberg, Robert Rodriguez, Quentin Tarantino and Alan Ball.”

However, our favorite nerdlebrity thus far is definitely True Blood’s Deborah Ann Woll who really seems to be livin’ it by dressing up as a character to go to a panel!

THR: What panel would you stand in line all day for?

Woll: RiffTrax with Mike Nelson, Kevin Murphy and Bill Corbett. I own so many movies that I’m ashamed I own specifically because I have a RiffTrax that goes with them. They always do a panel with a live RiffTrax. Last year, we had our True Blood panel and the RiffTrax panel was right afterward. I dashed offstage, went backstage and changed into my Hit-Girl outfit, stuffed my designer dress in a duffle bag and ran to their panel.

But this quote this that sealed the deal for us!

THR: Any can’t-miss parts of Comic-Con?

Woll: If you go to Comic-Con, go to Artists’ Alley. Meet the artists and see their drawings; a lot of them will do commission stuff and for $50 you can get a drawing that’s incredible.

WOW a nerdlebrity who remembers the artists! Deborah Ann Woll, you are our NEW HERO!

  1. Is Colin Ferguson famous enough to need a mask? I chatted with him while waiting in line for the men’s room last year, and thought he was a nice guy, but I didn’t know who he was until I asked him what he was doing at Comic-Con. Maybe I just don’t watch enough television?

  2. Yeah — and this passes the nerd sniff test by far — no wanna-be nerd hottie could reference Hit Girl, Rifftrax AND Artists Alley because their press agent told them to.

    Unless I’m horribly horribly naive.

Heck, I think I have a crush on her now.

  3. If Woll’s answers were somehow fake, PR agent driven, then I want that job! Hire me, I’ll tell you horribly nerdy things to say to further inflame the man-crushes of the great unwashed Con goers. ;) Reasonable rates. offered.

  4. At 2009 Con, I bumped into Maggie Gyllenhaal and chatted with her for a few minutes. Kind woman, and easy to talk with too. Everyone just kept walking by and either had no idea who she was or were so set on making to their destination that they completely ignored her.

  5. Funny, I was just listening to this podcast interview with Simon Pegg the other day that briefly touched on Comic-Con, and he mentioned that after a panel one year, Sigourney Weaver dressed up in a Batman costume so she could wander the floor undisturbed.
