The annual Friends of Lulu Awards ceremony and party will be held, as always Thursday night, July 20th, at the Starlight Ballroom at the Bristol Hotel, starting at 8:30. In addition, FoL will have a booth, and is still looking for some volunteers. In addition colorist Marlena Hall will be participating in a blogathon to raise funds for FoL. Details in jump.
The enormous, amazing San Diego Comic Con is hitting the West Coast from Thursday, July 20 to Sunday, July 23, and Friends of Lulu will proudly be there, opening minds about which women are creating comic books, and opening doors to those who want to make it into, or find more success in, the biz.
If you’d like to help us out at our always-fun San Diego table, even for an hour or two, please contact our president, Katie Merritt, at [email protected] (by Monday, July 17, if possible). We’d really appreciate your pitching in and letting people know about Lulu.
Also, if you’d like to show and sign your own works at the lively Lulu table, please drop Katie a line. It’s a fine, easy way to meet many con attendees and get your work out there. Hey, increase your audience and your con enjoyment.
And don’t miss our Annual General Meeting on Sunday, July 23! National Directors will be on hand to discuss Friends of Lulu’s successful past year as well as future plans. Learn how you can help further our goals of increasing diversity within the comic book industry, and how you can participate in such exciting programs as our Comics Review Board, the Lulu Awards, convention appearances with panel discussions, and much more. Nominations will be taken for the new Board of Directors for the 2006-’07 term.

Marlena Hall, comic colorist ( Dead@17: Protectorate, Villains back story, Karma Incorporated and others), is set to participate in 2006’s blogathon for charity. On Saturday, July 29th, at 6:00 AM PST she will be updating her blog every 30 minutes for 24 hours. The (non-profit) organization she will be blogging for is Friends of Lulu. Sponsor her by going HERE. Sponsor money can be a flat pledge, or a per blog pledge. After it’s over all sponsors will get an email telling them where exactly to send the money. Helping her out with posting ideas will be her husband and art team partner, Benjamin Hall, who will be doing some sketches and pinups and Marlena will color some and post their progress on her blog. She will also be attending this year’s San Diego Comic Con and will be writing about the convention and posting pictures from the event.
