It’s that time again, and just ahead of SDCC, Entertainment Weekly has put out their special Comic-Con Preview issue. This year, the focus is on Marvel’s Black Panther and the 2018 Ryan Coogler film that will bring his world to life.

While the report fleshes out some details about characters and the like, the big money quote comes from producer Nate Moore who described how the project has shaped up:

What I think we landed on was a sort of cross between James Bond and ‘The Godfather.’ A big operatic family drama centered on a world of international espionage. So hopefully we’re getting the best of both worlds.

I’m always wary when somebody brings up The Godfather in relation to one of these superhero movies, Joss Whedon did that with Age of Ultron for crying out loud, but Coogler is quite the talent – so if anybody has the ability to bring some real shifting family dynamics into the day-glo MCU, it’s him.

Here’s a couple of new looks at the cast below, in what’s easily one of the more anticipated Marvel films yet:

Ulysses Klaue (Andy Serkis)
Everett K. Ross (Martin Freeman)
T’Challa/Black Panther (Chadwick Boseman)

T’Challa/Black Panther (Chadwick Boseman) and Erik Killmonger (Michael B. Jordan)
L to R: Okoye (Danai Gurira), Nakia (Lupita Nyong’o) and Ayo (Florence Kasumba)
Zuri (Forest Whitaker)
Director Ryan Coogler and Chadwick Boseman
Nakia (Lupita Nyong’o) and Shuri (Letitia Wright)

Shuri (Letitia Wright), Nakia (Lupita Nyong’o), Ramonda (Angela Bassett) and Everett K. Ross (Martin Freeman)

  1. Michael B Jordan’s hair looks so good! Loving the style. Also need to see a close up of those things all over his skin. Looks pretty cool.

Also like that there is an actual Black Panther suit, and not just a CGI suit
