November sees the launch of Marvel’s Doctor Strange, putting Benedict Cumberbatch into the Marvel Universe for the first time. At the studio’s Hall H event last night at SDCC, hosted by Chris Hardwick, the cast came out to unveil both a new poster and trailer for the movie.
Both place their main emphasis on the effects, with cities sweeping and melting into themselves, building curving and bending at the whim of the magic that’s upon them. But will that magic translate across into theatres? The movie has, a little like Ant-Man before it, suffered from a lack of anticipation over the last few months. Weak trailers haven’t helped so far, so it’ll be interesting to see how people react to the new one.
This time round, there’s a greater spotlight on the extended cast – we get to hear from Mad Mikkelson’s villain, Chiwetel Ejiofor’s Baron Mordo, and Benedict Wong’s, uh, Wong. Rachel McAdams remains voiceless, seemingly relegated to a distressed love interest role. Personally? I’m still not much convinced by much of this, but I’d like to hear your comments on the new trailer. Does it increase or decrease your interest in Doctor Strange? Are you feeling the magic?
