Sales chart: What's topping Apple's comics/GN iBookstore

If we’re reading this right, hitting “popular” on the Apple bookstore page for comics reveals what’s hot at that very instant, and based on the placement of AVENGERS #1 and WALKING DEAD, we’d guess this has some relationship to sales velocity—not necessarily numbers, though.

Some observations: Hachette’s GN adaptation of Anne Rice’s INTERVIEW WITH A VAMPIRE doesn’t come out until next November, so it’s a bit unlikely as a bestseller.

Kids’ comics have always done well on iTunes, as has religion, so kids’ Bible comics are a natural near the top.

BIBI by Aria is some kind of Korean manhwa that has its own app, but not much else we can quickly glean. The first chapter is free, however, as are most of these “most popular.”

The rest of the list consists of free oddities, like Chris Howard’s SALTWATER WITCH, interspersed with paid warhorses, like WALKING DEAD.

As we always say, these kid of “snapshot” sales charts are just that…a snapshot and not a long-term ranking. However, it is always surprising what shows up.
