According to The Wrap, Kurt Russell is director Peter Gunn‘s top pick to play the role of Chris Pratt‘s father in the upcoming Guardians of the Galaxy 2.  The actor, who stars in Quentin Tarantino’s upcoming film The Hateful Eight, has not yet read the script or been officially offered the role, but will reportedly engage in talks with Marvel soon.

For those who need a recap, in Guardians of the Galaxy, Chris Pratt plays Peter Quill aka Star-Lord, a self-fashioned intergalactic bandit.  His mother, Meredith Quill, died while he was young and he never met his father, but throughout the movie the audience learns certain tidbits about Star-Lord’s dad.  He is purportedly of an ancient race, and Meredith sees Peter’s dad as a being of pure light.  A member of the Nova Corps comments that Peter’s dad is unlike anything ever seen before.

In the comics, Peter’s dad is Jason of Spartax, but we have no confirmation that this aspect Peter’s past will carry into the Marvel Cinematic Universe.  For now, we wait.
