In a report published this morning by TVLine, they’ve learned that Netflix and Marvel are close to signing off on a spin-off series focused on Jon Bernthal’s Frank Castle/The Punisher, who will make his debut in Daredevil‘s second season. Apparently the early notices on Bernthal’s work have been very positive, and while this turn of events had been rumored now for a few months, this is the first official word that’s surfaced regarding Marvel and Netflix adding to their lineup of programming.
The Punisher has previously appeared in live action three times before, in the 1989 The Punisher starring Dolph Lundgren, 2004’s film of the same name with Thomas Jane, and 2008’s Punisher: War Zone that lined up Ray Stevenson in the main role.
The Punisher would be Netflix’s sixth Marvel series following Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, Iron Fist, and The Defenders.
