This year’s Oscar Best Actress winner for her remarkable performance in Room may be on the verge of headlining Marvel Studios first female-led big screen effort.
According to a report in Variety, Brie Larson is in early negotiations to play the role of Carol Danvers aka Captain Marvel in the studio’s solo launch of the character. She is apparently the first choice and is leaning towards taking the part. If this shakes out, it’ll be a huge get for the studio. Larson is basically great in everything, and honestly, it’s hard for me to think of anyone better suited for the role. The chops here are off the charts.
This would be Larson’s second comic book role, following her turn as Envy Adams in Scott Pilgrim vs The World. There’s no director on-board as of yet, but we’ve been expecting an announcement on that front to come hand in hand with the star this summer. Meg LeFauve who penned the *outstanding* Inside Out has teamed with Guardians of the Galaxy screenwriter Nicole Perlman on the script.
The film is scheduled to arrive in 2019.
