Adding to what is going to be an exceptional surplus of releases for next month’s BCGF is the third installment of the unconventional and visually dazzling GANG BANG BONG, a bilingual comic anthology completely removed from any confining narrative structure; rather, editors Ines Estrada and Ginette Lapalme explore new mediums of visual storytelling through a uniquely curated  anthology  from 17 contributors.

The first GANG BANG BONG was released in 2010, and since its first issue, the anthology has continued to impress with its vast representations of styles and unorthodox processes of storytelling. Much like its perplexing title, GANG BANG BONG doesn’t tie down its content to any underlying themes or topics, and if the third issue is anything like its predecessors, it will surely be a non-sequitur and deconstructionist journey of visual fantasy.

The multi-talented ladies at the helm, first being Ines Estrada, one half of the collective Cafe Con Leche and editor of Vice Mexico Comics Column; and Toronto-based Ginette Lapalme of Wowee Zonk have conjointly published GANG BANG BONG every year despite their geographical difference. The anthology has been much a labor of love, not to mention a display of the some the best young independent cartoonists and illustrators around today. In some ways, the anthology exudes notes of a similar experimental anthology, KRAMER’S ERGOT, and hopefully will continue to push its subverted displays of comic form.

GANG BANG BONG #3 has been in the works for some time now, and if you’ve been following their Tumblr, the snippets they’ve revealed show there will be everything from the familiar GIRL MOUNTAIN by Simon Hanselmann to temporary tattoos to share and trade by Rob Corradetti.
