Dynamite’s new series starring the scarlet-haired warrior kicks off in February 2019 with Red Sonja #1. The metal-bikini-clad bad ass is now the wartime ruler of a land on the brink of disaster. Readers will also find conquerors, prophecies, and vengeful sorceresses to round out the epic tale of magic, metal, and blood.
The character has seen many versions since 1973 when creators Roy Thomas and Barry Windsor-Smith launched her debut as a warrior from Hyrkania and a contemporary of Conan. The current Red Sonja’s mysterious nature and unmatched sword-wielding skills inspire fear and awe in those who meet her.
The team behind this incarnation of the “She-Devil of The Hyrkanian Steppes” includes writer Mark Russell (Flintstones, Snagglepuss, Lone Ranger) artist Mirko Colak (Conan, Red Skull, Turok), colorist Dearbhla Kelly (Wild Storm: Michael Cray), and letterer Hassan Otsmane-Elhaou (Lone Ranger, Shanghai Red). Also available are variant covers by notable names such as Amanda Conner, Joseph Michael Linsner, Christian Ward, and Frank Cho. There is also a fifth cosplay variant.
