As usual, the days before MoCCA are jam packed with signings and events. We’re still getting everything collated but here are the events for today, Thursday, April 8.
April 8 03:30PM – 04:30PM
For children of all ages and their caregivers…
Zig and Wikki land on a planet of strange creatures like flies, frogs and raccoons, just when it seems to be lunchtime! In their hilarious search for a new pet, the friends discover fun facts about animals and nature.
Written by recent Yale graduate Nadja Spiegelman and illustrated by web designer and illustrator Trade Loeffler, the first science-based TOON Book, Zig and Wikki in “Something Ate My Homework” is an out-of-this-world adventure!
7:00 pm: James Sturm and MARKET DAY at the Strand:
Please join the Strand Bookstore and Drawn & Quarterly for the NYC launch of the new graphic novel MARKET DAY by cartoonist, educator and innovator, James Sturm. James will be presenting a slide show and conversation about his life in comics. Thursday, April 8th, 7:00 PM. Broadway at 12th, NYC. MARKET DAY has received rave reviews, it is a poignant historical fiction tale of a Eastern European Jewish rug maker trying to support his family with what he does best and what he loves doing, making hand crafted rugs. The Industrial Revolution is upon him, however, and the changing economy forces Mendelman to choose between his passion and his family. A timeless tale for any era.
7:00 pm: 30 Days, Family pop up gallery opening
Sammy Harkham’s Family store is coming to NYC with a pop up gallery featuring:
Ashley Snow Macomber
Cali Thornhill Dewitt
Autumn De Wilde
The work looks really amazing. If you’re in the area come to the opening tomorrow night at 7pm. Brian Degraw (Gang Gang Dance) and Aska Matsumiya (asDSSka, The Sads) will be performing sets to Gary Panter and Joshua White’s insanely sick light show.
The above video previews one of White’s light shows, and Panter’s light shows are legendary. DO NOT MISS!
