One of the most anticipated games of 2018 based on a comics property is Overkill’s The Walking Dead. The four-player co-op survival video game puts players in the shoes of one of four original characters. Your group will need to fight the dead to keep from being ripped apart and just like the comics, the living will also present a different set of challenges. From what we’ve seen so far, nothing in the game makes players feel safe at any moment and it puts a big emphasis on character. Using them to both tell a story and as designated roles during gameplay. Starbreeze Studios recently released the trailer to IGN for the fourth character in Overkill’s The Walking Dead, a stop at nothing survivalist named Heather.

The scene is one of the most violent shown off thus far yet it tells much of the game’s feeling of hopelessness and survival at all costs. We’re led to believe Heather is simply a woman trying to get by, even when she’s attacked by the gang in the convenience store you get the impression she’s simply defending herself. At the end of the trailer, her flaring a pack of walkers to maul her cornered attackers is gray area justice the comics once did soo well. This is already a character I want to know more about.

Between the violence and some of the character’s heart-wrenching backstories, Overkill’s The Walking Dead is sure not going to be for those with weak stomachs. Its collaboration between Skybound, developers Starbreeze Studios (Chronicles of Riddick: Escape From Butcher Bay) and Overkill (Payday) points to a lot of talented people who are not shy about violence being part of the story. The game will make an appearance at E3 next week with the first gameplay footage and likely a solid release date announced.
