The pre-NYCC announcement wave is upon us, leaving comics sites like this one awash in press releases, exclusive announcements, and impulsive creator tweets tipping new books coming early next year and right on through the spring.

The latest of the bunch is Oni Press’ Morning in America from writer Magdalene Visaggio (Eternity Girl, Oh S#!T IT’S KIM & KIM) and artist Claudia Aguirre (Kim & Kim), a miniseries that goes on sale March 6, 2019. Morning in America is a high school horror book set in 1983 within a presumably small town in Ohio where a mysterious new factory has sprung up, sparking a wave of disappearances as said town comes under siege by strange monsters.

Get ready for some high school horror nostalgia! Oni Press is excited to announce a new miniseries by powerhouse team Magdalene Visaggio (Eternity Girl) and Claudia Aguirre (Kim & Kim), Morning in America, with issue #1 to be released March 6th, 2019.

The year is 1983. A series of disappearances afflicts Tucker, Ohio following the opening of a mysterious new factory. But when the town finds itself under siege from strange monsters, it’s up to intrepid girl gang of no-account teen girl delinquents to try and figure out what’s happening—and save everyone’s lives before it’s too late.

“Oni has been putting out some of my favorite comics for years, from Scott Pilgrim onward,” said Magdalene Visaggio. “And I’m absolutely thrilled that Morning in America is launching there. This book is extremely close to my heart, and Claudia is one of the dearest people in the world to me, so I hope our excite comes through in this dark, hopefully-funny story about monsters, friendship, and the end of the world.”

“Drawing this comic has been a pleasure,” said Claudia Aguirre. “I absolutely adore working with Mags to create truly heart-wrenching yet fun stories, and our lovely friends at Oni Press have always been amazing. I hope everyone loves Morning in America as much as we love making it.”

Magdalene Visaggio will be signing at the Oni Press booth #2028 during New York Comic Con, October 3 to October 6th.
